INTRODUCTION
Sarawak is the largest state
in Malaysia. With a large number of tribes, it makes the State of Sarawak
unique in addition to the multiracial, religious and cultural communities of
interest.
The “LAND OF HORNBILLS” in
Borneo is famous for its courtesy besides its unique uniqueness to prove that
they live peacefully without any threat if they come to this country.
Sarawak is known as "LAND
OF HORNBILLS". Compared to Peninsular Malaysia, Sarawak is Uniqueness and
its distinctive charm make it popular in the world. Significant differences are
the number of race, states with different customary traditions, geographic,

The Matang Range that forms a
scenic backdrop to Kuching is also the site of the Kubah National Park. It just
20 kilometres from the State Capital (Kuching), the park is a favourite
destination for local day-trippers. The park also provides overnight accommodation
for visitors wanting to stay longer.
Gunung Serapi, Gunung Selang and
Gunung Sendok are three sandstone mountains nearby. It can be seen from Kuching
on clear days. Within the park’s 2,230 hectares, you can find not only rare
ferns and wild orchids but also a multiplicity of palms, so many different
varieties that Kubah is known as “THE WORLD OF PALMS”.
Popular with local people are the
waterfalls and clear jungle streams where you can cool off after trekking
through the jungle on well-marked paths.
An overnight stay in highly
recommended if you want to get the best of this diverse and interesting park.
There is no cafeteria or catering service but basic cooking facilities is

b). Jong’s Crocodile Park
Jong’s Crocodile Farm is situated
at 18 Miles (about 29 km) Kuching/Serian Highway, about 20 minutes leisure
drive from Kuching Town, the capital of Sarawak, Malaysia, familiar name “Land
of Hornbills”, boasts one of the largest and the only crocodile breeding farm
in the Country.
Set amidst the charming backdrop of
tall tropical trees (such as palm), lush vegetation and local fruit trees lies
this unique farm wit over a thousand crocodiles bred in captivity. The farm
provides a perfect sanctuary for the reptiles, saving the species from
extinction. There are huge and deep concrete ponds and natural breeding grounds
for the crocodiles to mate and multiply.
Visitors are able to gaze at the
snapping jaws, cold menacing eyes, sharp pointed teeth and powerful lashing
tails of the crocs within short distance yet safe because of the metal fence.
Not only crocodiles here, there are
also numerous rare species of birds and animals found only in the Borneo
Island. There are also monkeys, leopard-cats, sunbears, bearcats, pheasants,
civets, barking deers, sambar deers, turtles, fruit bats, monitor lizards,
phythons, fish and even hornbills.

C). Dbku
Orchid Garden, Kuching
Sarawak’s very own State Flower,
the Normah Orchid (Phalaenopsis Bellina) is amongst the wide collection of
Borneo Orchids found in this garden. The 15.4 acre DBKU Orchid Garden, property
is strategically located opposite the Kuching Waterfront (famous river) in the
vicinity of the historical Astana and Fort Margherita. The New Building of
Dewan Undangan Negeri (State Legislative Assembly Building) is also nearby.
Tip:
Crossing the Sarawak river on a
wooden boat known as “Penambang” only find in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia is a
more interesting way to get to the garden. Remember to bring a hat and your
camera (especially Gopro), great for macro photography. Free admission. Open
everyday except Mondays. Don’t forget Ya!!!

C). Civic
Centre Kuching
The viewing platform of the Civic
Centre’s “Tall Tower” is the best place for a 360-degree view of the cityspace,
hiding behind its coverage of trees. Interestingly, this building also boasts
the highest public toilet in the city, plus a restaurant on the penultimate
level and a planetarium on the ground. A public library is also location on
site should you require a spot of light reading or research.

Divisional Mosque/ Kuching City Mosque
The gilded cupolas of this splendid
mosque can be seen from across the entire city. This majestic building was
completed in 1968, after being built on the site of an older wooden mosque.
Formerly the Sarawak State Mosque, the Divisional Mosque is today one of the
City’s most striking landmarks and well worth a look. It is worth noting that
non-Muslims may not enter during prayers, and the necessary dresscode must be
observed at all times.

Pustaka Negeri Sarawak is conceived
as a major information resource centre and as a hub of information services for
both public and private sector. It will link libraries, archives and
information centers within Sarawak and throughout Malaysia. It will also

Waterfront
Kuching Waterfront, which lines the
south bank of Sarawak River, is THE PLACE… to sample the city’s cosmopolitan
vibes. During the daytime, it offers scenic views of the Astana, Fort
Margherita and the Malay Village across the river; but night-time is when it
really comes alive! It seems like half of the city is out meeting friends,
watching a show, or just shooting the breeze. Amazing rite!!!
For something different, why not
try jetty-hopping along the river on the local “Penambang boats” the cheapest
transport, and savour the different sights, sounds (and delicacies!!!) between
the two riverbanks.
A result of a major restoration and
land reclamation project, Kuching Waterfront today is the most popular meeting
place in the City. Drab warehouses have been replaced with an almost 900m long
esplanade, beautifully landscaped and dotted with wooden benches, food stalls,
restaurants and entertainment facilities. A number of older buildings have been
preserved and incorporated into the design, including the Chinese History
Museum, the Sarawak Steamship Building, an open-air theatre and the Square
Tower. Modern additions to the Waterfront include a restored Chinese Pavillion,
Colourful Musical Fountains, and A Number Of Modern Sculptures. You Must See!!!

Kuching’s Golden Bridge which will
span across the Sarawak River in the center are opened to public and the cost
of RM 35 million.
The 400 metres bridge begin from
the Sarawak State Legislative Building, and will be curled towards the Kuching
Waterfront in an ‘S’ shape.
Its shape which was inspired by
Sarawak’s meandering rivers in Sarawak, while the design will take elements of
Sarawak diverse culture including reminiscing the Bidayuh Bamboo Bridge.

Kuching is familiar named called “Cats
City”. The cat statues not only gives a unique feel to the city, they are also
nice photography subjects. From the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) White Cat
Statue to Family Cat from the DBKU. It was built in the 90s and is the first
ever cat statue in Kuching.
It is the nicest and friendliest
looking of all. All Cat Statues are symbols from Sarawak to welcoming visitors

North City Hall (DBKU)
The Kuching North City Hall is the
commission which administers the northern part of the city of Kuching in the
state of Sarawak, Malaysia.
Other than that,
The Kuching’s Cat Museum is the
first museum of its kind in the World. It is managed by Kuching North City Hall
and has collection of Cat artefacts acquired from the National Museum which
displayed them in one of its galleries in Kuala Lumpur. These collections were
bought to Kuching City by the Sarawak Museum and displayed for the first time
on 1st August 1988 at the Dewan Tun Abdul Razak.

With its rainforest, abundant
wildlife, jungle streams, waterfalls, interesting plant life, secluded beaches
and trekking traits, Bako National Park is the best place. Why???
Bako National Park offers visitors
an excellent introduction to the rainforest of Borneo. Bako may not have an
instantly recognizable star attraction but there can be very few places in the
world that pack so much natural beauty into such a limited are, all just 37 km
from Capital of Kuching. Its accessibility and its sheer range of attraction
and activities and have made Bako one of the most popular parks in Sarawak,
Malaysia.
m). Semenggoh
Wildlife Centre
The Semenggoh Wildlife Centre is
the biggest OrangUtan Rehabilitation Centre in Sarawak, Malaysia. Established
in 1975 as a sanctuary for the injured and orphaned orangutans.
Together with the Sepilok OrangUtan
Rehabilitation Centre in Sabah this is the most well known rehabilitation
center for tourists to visit. Tourists should not mistake both Semenggoh and
Sepilok as actual tourist attractions; both wildlife centers are intended to
rehabilitate orangutans and educate visitors at the same time.
As it only a 30 minute drive from
the city of Kuching; tourists can easily go to the Semenggoh Wildlife Centre.
To get there, you have four (4)
options depending on your budget.

Shuttle Bus (availbale at RM10/person- arranged with the tour operator or by
the hotel)

“Rafflesia” – The Largest
Flower
Gunung Gading is home to the world’s
largest flower “Rafflesia” which can
grow up to one metre in diameter. When in bloom the flower gives off a nasty
smell which attracts flies and other insects. The rafflesia has no specific
season but the rainy season provides better blooming frequencies. It takes nine
months to mature and flowering lasts only 4 – 5 days before dying.
Another attractions in Gunung
Gading is Waterfall. The Waterfall’ trail offers the shortest walk, winding its
way up through the forest past a series of waterfalls. It takes about one hour
to reach the last one, Waterfall No.7. You’ll need to be fit for the other
trek, the Gunung Gading Summit trail about 3-4 hours one way) as it involves
some serious hill walking. Pay a mind, you must complete the trail and return
the same day, as overnight stays in the forest are not permitted.

Gunung Santubong is located on the
Damai Peninsula, 35 km north of Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia. From sea level, its
irregular rainforest-covered peaks rise steeply to 810m, forming a catchment
for numerous streams and a potential sanctuary for a variety of wildlife.
Gunung Santubong provides a
spectacular backdrop to hotel resorts, local fishing villages, and the Sarawak
Cultural Village. Its striking peak is visible from Kuching on most days.
Santubong Summit - This is moderate
difficulty day-trip from Kuching, and one of the best in the region. It
involves some steep climbs, including up rope ladders, but the trail is well
made, and it provides very rewarding views from the top. The trail passes
through beautiful and diverse rainforest and offers a good opportunity for
seeing wildlife, especially on weekdays when the trail is quieter. A pretty
waterfall offers a great way to cool off at the end of the walk.

approximately 3-4 hours to the Summit; 2.5 – 3 hours to return and it depending
on route (total about 5-7 hours).
p). Gunung
Serapi
Is actually one of the peaks of the
Matang Mountain, which is in the Kubah National Park. You can take the trail to
the summit or can take another trail which leads you through the rainforest to
the Matang Wildlife Santuary.
Gunung Serapi is a little different
from the other ones which can climb in the area. There is a Telecommunications
tower built on top of the mountain.

Island and Satang Islands

www.jacknjillscute.comQuite close actually Satang Islands can easily be reached in an hour drive from Kuching via the jetty in Telaga Air, Kuching. Getting across in a boat takes another 30 minutes.
Another island, Talang islands.
Talang Islands can be reached from Sematan, one of famous district in Kuching,
which is a longer 2 hours drive from Kuching and the boat ride there is also
longer (about 45 minutes).
Out of the two islands the Satang
Islands are far more accessible to tourists. Talang islands only allows
volunteer visitors to it’s turtle rearing facilities which involves a lot of
paperwork with Sarawak Forestry and very limited places.
Satang islands also have the same
possibility but apart from this normal divers and visitors to the island are
allowed.
Both sets of islands have fairly
steep and distinctly zoned reefs, with branching corals near the shot, giving
the Gonostrea and Porites as well as many other corals further out. Pay a mind,
fishing is technically illegal in both of islands. But local fishermen have
exemptions for access so while there is a fair variety of small reef fish.

Wetland National Park
Are located just 15 kilometres from
Kuching and approximately 5 km from Damai Beach, the Kuching Wetlands National
Park covers an area of 6,610 hectares on the estuarine reaches of the Sibu laut
and Salak rivers. The park is mostly comprised of a saline mangrove system that
includes an extensive network of marine waterways and tidal creeks
interconnecting the two major rivers that form the boundaries of the park.
Small patches of heath forest are
found in the interior of the park. The park is an important spawning and
nursery ground for fish and prawn species and contains a wide diversity or
wildlife, monitor lizards, a estuarine crocodiles, a range of birdlife, including
kingfishers, white-bellied sea eagles and shore birds, including the rare
lesser adjutant stork.

s). Sarawak
Wind Cave and Fairy Cave, Kuching
One of the day trip that you can do
is to visit Sarawak Wind Cave and Fairy Cave which are located near the town of
Bau. Don’t forget IT!!!
Gold mining was the main activity
in Bau in the 1840s with the Chinese being the main player in this industry.
The mining of gold is still being carried out today.
Most tourists will past by this
town enroute to the limestone caves. Bau town is about 48 kilometres away from
Kuching and it will take 45 minutes drive to reach this historic town.
Sarawak Wind Cave is about 5 km
southwest of Bau and is opened from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm. Entrance fee is
RM3/adult and RM1.50/child. Underground streams run through the cave and
boardwalks are made available for your convenience. However, these boardwalks
are not lighted hence bringing your own torch light is essential. Don’t worried
because torchlight can also be rented outside the cave for RM3.00.
After that, don’t forget visiting
the Wind Cave, most visitors will proceed south to visit the Fairy Cave. Spend
an hour or so exploring this cave. Interesting rite!!!
There are many formations that you
can see and explore. Entrance to this cave is free of charge (FOC). Your will
be able to see some unusual stalactites and stalagmites that were formed over
thousands of years ago. Many Buddhist and Taoist come here to burn joss sticks as
many of the formations are similar to their deities.

Is where the Borneo Highlands
Resort and the Hornbill Golf & Jungle Club located. The challenging 18-hole
golf course winds its way around the natural features of the highland plateau
whilst the Jungle Spa offers herbal treatments and traditional massages. It
about 70 kilometres from Kuching, this hill resort is situated at the
Sarawak-kalimantan Border, at an altitude of 600 to 1,000 metres. If you fancy
something at a lower altitude, go to the Annah Rais Longhouse at the foothill
instead.
u). Santubong
– Sarawak Cultural Village
Santubong is very popular with its
untouched natural tourist attractions. It is located in Sarawak, in East
Malaysia is situated about 35 km away from Kuching, the capital of Sarawak,
Malaysia.
The main attraction in Santubong is
the Cultural Village. Sarawak Cultural Village is located at the foothill of
Mount Santubong. In the Cultural Village, you have the chance to experience the
rich cultures and different ethnics of Sarawak. There are gardens of beautiful
flowers and plants with amazing rock and sculptures around in the cultural
village. One of the must do exciting thing in the Cultural Village is to walk
across the bamboo bridge to each the Bidayuh Longhouse. The bamboo bridge is
quite narrow but with strong and long borders at both sides. In the long house,
there are traditional music playing and locals dancing to welcome you. Exhibits
and displays that are related to their culture are displayed too.

Sarawak Museum was established by Charles Brooke the Second Rajah in 1860 and thanks to the great naturalist, Alfred Russell Wallace for his influence. They realized their intentions by setting up a temporary museum at the Market place, along Gambier Street Kuching in 30th October 1886. Later a proper museum was built at its present site and opened its door to the public on 4th August 1891.

survived the Second World War. It is a keeper of the rich culture and history

Which is located at Kampung Serikin
Jagoi, Bau District. Opened every weekend selling array of merchandise. It is a
popular weekend destinations among local and tourist alike (looking for
bargain)!!!
How to Go Pasar Serikin,
Bau???
Serikin Weekend Market which is
located at Kampung Serikin, Jagoi is accessible via Bau – Serikin Road. The
journey from Bau Town is around 45 minutes and about an hour from Kuching City.
There is no public bus to Pekan Serikin. Getting there is either using own
transport or follow tour group organised by tour operator from Kuching.
You also can find mini-van in Bau
Town..Though their services are infrequent as they catered for local from
nearby village. The hassle free option is to rent a car/van in Kuching.
