Backlog Samples Tested Positive : COVID - 19 Brunei Darussalam

Brunei Darussalam continues to witness a surge of daily COVID-19 cases, with 122 new cases reported on Tuesday, August 24, 2021. Leading the national tally to 1,455 cases in total.

 

The country is expecting more cases due to the backlog of swab tests and increasing numbers of close contacts with the positive cases.

 

The Ministry of Health (MoH) has identified additional cases to active clusters: 9 cases for Cluster Champion 7 - Platform Cluster, 2 cases for Cluster Champion 7 - Blue Titanium Cluster, 8 cases for the BSP HQ Cluster (Block M), 8 cases for IBTE KB Cluster, 7 cases for Chung Hua KB Cluster, and 3 cases for Cluster 583.

 

Meanwhile, one (1) new cluster has been identified with four (4) related cases, and this cluster is now known as the #1385 Cluster.

 

Two (2) import cases were recorded in which Case 1332 arrived in Brunei Darussalam on August 06, 2021 onboard flight Singapore Airlines SQ148 from the United Kingdom, and Case 1413 arrived in Brunei Darussalam on August 08, 2021 onboard Royal Brunei B1684 from Manila.

 

The MoH has detected 79 unknown cases where the source of infection is still being investigated. Also shared that cases in the active clusters are individuals who are currently being quarantined and were found to be in contact with several confirmed cases.

 

Meanwhile, 4 cases have recovered, bringing the total of recovered cases to 355 cases, giving a total of 1,096 active cases recorded in the country.

 

Among the active cases, 3 cases are in critical condition, 2 cases require ventilators and 1 case requires the help of an additional heart/lung machine (ECMO). Meanwhile, 22 cases have been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit for close monitoring.

 

A total of 6,521 samples have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 195,607 tests.

 

MoH Extends Its Efforts To Isolate Positive Cases To Health Facilities

 

In a daily press conference, the Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham Bin Haji Jaafar informed that efforts are being increased to isolate all positive cases in health facilities.

 

" However, there are still delays in some of these efforts. Cases that have been confirmed positive and have not been transferred to health facilities, as well as their close contacts who are undergoing quarantine, are not allowed to leave their respective places of isolation, " he said.

 

For positive cases that have signs of a prolonged or worsening infection, it is advisable to call the Ambulance Emergency Line 991 immediately.

 

The Government Further Prolonged Restriction For Two (2) Weeks

 

With the consent of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and taking into account, the current situation is still unstable in Brunei Darussalam, and it is announced through the Ministry of Health that the control measures are extended to September 04, 2021.

 

The Minister of Health advised the public to be united in controlling the spread of COVID - 19 infection, where cooperation of all parties is needed, especially to be patient in obtaining the services provided such as swab testing, the COVID-19 vaccination and when contacting the Health Advice Line 148.

 

" Frontliners are trying their best to perform the duties and responsibilities entrusted to them as best as possible. The public must comply with all directives and advice given the Government," he said.
