MUDA EXPECTED TO CONTEST AT LEAST TWO (2) SEATS IN JOHOR - MALAYSIAN GE15
JOHOR BAHARU: Talk is rife that the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) is expected to contest at least two (2) seats in Johor Baharu in the 15th General Election.
Besides Muda's founder and chief, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman contesting the Muar Parliamentary seat, co-founder Lim Wei Jiet is said to be gunning for the Tanjung Piai seat.
Lim had lost his bid to win the Tenang state seat in the March 2022 state polls.
Muda will be making its national polls debut, and is hoping to contest 10 parliamentary seats in GE15.
However, Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) has also been eying the Tanjung Piai seat either for its deputy president Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub or former Johor Baharu speaker Suhaizan Kayat.
It is unclear if last minute horse-trading would result in Muda getting more seats.
In GE15, at least 10 seats previously contested by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) have been distributed among Pakatan Harapan parties with PKR taking the lions share of seats with at least 11 or 12 seats, DAP at least 7 or 8 and Amanah 5 or 6.
Salahuddin, when contacted, said he would leave it to the party to decide if he defends his Pulai seat.
Asked if he would like to contest in Tajung Piai, he only replied that he was a local from that area.
