STILL NO COMMUNICATIONS WITH SINGAPORE OIL TANKER LAST HEARD NEAR IVOREY COAST : MARITIME & PORT AUTHORITY (MPA SINGAPORE)
SINGAPORE: The owner of Success 9, a Singapore-registered oil tanker, is still unable to establish communications with the vessel that last reported its position off the waters of Ivory Coast, West Africa.
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said this in a statement issued in response to media queries on the situation which is believed to be due to un-authorised boarding of Success 9.
Apart from the Monrovia Regional Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre, MPA said it has reached out to the other authorities in the region, including authorities in Ivory Coast and Ghana for assistance.
"The Ivory Coast authorities have deployed their air and sea assets to the vicinity of the last known position of the vessel," said MPA.
MPA had on Tuesday said it had received a report that Success 9 was boarded by unidentified persons at about 300 nautical miles off the Abidjan Coast, Ivory Coast the previous day.
MPA said the incident occurred at about 10pm Singapore time.
"There are 20 crew of various nationalities onboard the vessel, of which one of them is a Singapore citizen," it said.
MPA said it is working closely with the ship's owner, Monrovia Regional Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre and the Information Fusion Centre at the Changi Command and Control Centre to monitor the situation and render the necessary assistance.
